“The Head that Remembers the Future”

Somewhere beyond the molten margins of the Carton Dune Fold, where language becomes magnetic dust and time exfoliates backwards, the Head keeps humming.

It was once part of a larger thing—a god? a weapon? a librarian of extinct emotions? No one agrees. Now it rests half-buried in the red rind of a world that never cooled, gazing toward a sun that hasn’t been born yet, listening with receptors carved from forgotten metals.

The spines are not for defense. They’re antennae for extracting regret from ultraviolet wavelengths. The cyclopean eye? A kiln for distilling memories that haven’t occurred. If you stand close enough, the mouth will open—but only to whisper the name of the person you’ll be when you finally destroy what you love most.

They say the little drone—affectionately called “Spindleborn”—visits daily to consult the Head. Spindleborn chirps coordinates, and the Head replies with a low thrum of inevitability. Together they rewrite terrain into narrative, folding rust into prophecy.

If you touch the surface of the Head, you will feel not heat, but pressure—the kind felt in dreams where cities are underwater but breathing fine, where gravity hums lullabies in reverse. You will leave changed. Not outwardly. Just enough to know that time isn’t linear, and neither are you.

Because the Head doesn’t remember the past.
It remembers you—tomorrow.
