“Triptych for the Forgotten Engineer”
When the Ministry of Perceptual Errors opened the wrong drawer, they found Sergei.
Or how he had evolved.
He had once been a man—perhaps even several men—tasked with fixing the Clock of Thought, a machine buried beneath the green-tiled skin of the world. But something went slant. The gears sang backward. The mirror refused its own reflection. Sergei split—vertically, conceptually, and then metaphorically until metaphor became flesh.
Now there are three.
One laughs because it understands.
One screams because it doesn’t.
The third one listens, eternally, through a monocle that sees time sideways.
Each of their mouths is locked in a different stage of denial.
Each of their eyes rotates at a different speed.
And none of them blink anymore—not since the thunderbird’s verdict.
This is not a portrait.
It’s a confession caught in rust.
A triptych nailed to the wall of an asylum where the inmates are ideas, and the guards are memories that learned to weld.
