Centi – The Pillar Between Seconds

Acrylic on canvas 12 x 48

“Centi: The Pillar Between Seconds”

This painting is not of a form—it is of a pause. A moment so precise it had to be isolated and sealed. The central figure, often mistaken for a pillar or void or spine, is in fact Centi, a temporal organism that exists only in the sliver between two seconds too ashamed to touch.

When I first encountered it, Centi was burrowing through a rusted hour hidden in the basement of a collapsed clocktower. It moved slowly, exhaling stillness. I caught its impression by preparing a canvas with pulverized metronomes and whisper soot. The surrounding field, in tones of scorched ochre and oxidized patience, is a containment field built from expired expectations.

Centi does not think in thoughts, but in delays. If you stand before the painting long enough, you may feel time catch on your breath. That’s not vertigo. That’s recognition. Centi is remembering you back.

Some say this piece radiates calm. Others say it stares. I say: It’s not looking at you. It’s counting.

Keep away from timepieces, contracts, or promises. Centi corrupts linearity. And occasionally, when it’s very quiet, it subtracts a second from your day and stores it in the frame.
