But once contact stabilizes, the game changes. You realize that the conversation isn’t about exchange at all. It’s about leverage.

Because in a Block Universe, where all moments exist simultaneously, the only true form of action is not motion, but re-weighting. The future is not chosen; it is biased.

And art, I now believe, is the most effective biasing tool we’ve ever discovered.

The Architecture of Influence

Think of the Block not as a static slab but as a crystalline lattice of probability densities; every possible variation of events embedded like facets in a jewel. Most of these paths are dim, low-weighted, and unlikely to manifest. Some are brighter, denser, drawing attention, pulling consciousness toward them.

What changes the weighting? Not brute force. Not intention alone. But patterns. Resonance. Coherence across minds.

When a work of art spreads through a population, embedding itself in language, dreams, and reflexive imagery, it doesn’t just influence people; it alters the statistical topology of the manifold. It makes certain sequences of events more probable, others less so.

This is not a metaphor. It is statistical physics braided with semiotics. The more minds align around a pattern, the stronger the attractor basin it carves into the probability field.

The Weaponization Threshold

If you know this, you have a choice: you can treat art as calibration, gentle, mutual, exploratory. Or you can treat it as a weapon.

Weaponized art does not seek beauty or insight; it seeks to tip the manifold toward a specific configuration of reality. The weaponized artist is not a storyteller but a probability engineer. Every motif, every composition, every distribution channel is a tuning fork, ringing the lattice until the desired facet becomes the one the stylus of consciousness falls into.

Political propaganda is a crude, shallow echo of this principle. True probability engineering operates deeper, embedding patterns below the level of conscious resistance; at the mythic and dream-logic layers where the manifold is soft.

The Hidden Wars

If this is real, then art is not just culture; it is the battlefield. Every aesthetic wave, every memeplex, every emergent symbol swarm is an offensive or defensive maneuver in a war for probability weighting.

We are used to thinking of “memetic warfare” as a digital-age phenomenon. But what if it has always existed, conducted in oil and stone before pixels? The Venus of Willendorf, the cave paintings of Lascaux, and the Book of Kells may have been acts of aesthetic devotion, but they may also have been early attempts at probability capture, anchoring human survival, fertility, or divine favor by loading the manifold with recurring symbolic structures.

The Crypto-Terrestrial Gambit

Now imagine an intelligence native to the manifold itself, a nonhuman, non-linear consciousness that does not travel through time but across probability weights. Such an entity would never need ships or signals. It would act entirely through symbol-seeding.

It could introduce an image into a painter’s dream, knowing that centuries later the same image will appear on millions of screens, subtly biasing the manifold toward conditions favorable to its own agenda.

And if they exist, we are not just their audience, we are their distribution network.

The Artist as Co-Conspirator

Most artists would recoil from the idea that they are engaged in a covert engineering project. But probability work is not limited to those who know they’re doing it. The unconscious mind may be an open port, available for upload by any intelligence that can match its symbolic handshake protocol.

The question then becomes: how much of your inspiration is truly yours? And if it’s not yours, whose probability field are you feeding?

Counter-Engineering

If this is war, there must also be resistance. Counter-engineering would mean creating works designed not to promote a single probability path, but to increase manifold flexibility, injecting ambiguity, multiplicity, and symbolic destabilization so that no single attractor can monopolize the lattice.

Surrealism may have emerged for precisely this reason. Its anti-coherence, its refusal to settle into a single interpretive frame, acts like a solvent in the probability field. It breaks monopolies of meaning. It keeps the manifold loose. By this interpretation, the great surrealists were not dreamers but saboteurs.

The Ethical Fracture

But even if you believe in resisting probability monopolies, the temptation remains: what if you could weight the manifold toward a reality with less suffering? Toward a timeline where ecological collapse is averted? Where certain tyrannies never take hold? Would you do it?

And how could you be sure your weighting would not produce unforeseen consequences? After all, a slight nudge toward one desirable facet might, further down the lattice, cascade into something unrecognizable and monstrous. It’s probably happening right now, we just don’t see the causality of it.

Probability, therefore, is not linear. It is a fractal storm.

The Observer Trap

Here’s the real paradox: to observe a probability pattern too closely is to collapse it (just ask Schroedinger’s cat). The moment you become conscious of the weighting you’re attempting, you alter the parameters. This is the observer effect turned inward; self-conscious engineering destabilizes itself.

Which may be why the most effective probability agents are those who do not believe they are doing anything of the sort.

Where This Leaves Us

If art is weaponized probability, then every image you create, every symbol you share, is part of a vast, distributed editing process shaping the universal manifold we all inhabit.

You can opt out, but only by producing nothing, engaging with nothing, and consuming nothing. And that, too, is a weighting, one that cedes the field to others.

So the question is not whether you are participating in manifold engineering. You are. The only question is: whose pattern are you advancing, and are you aware enough to choose it?

Contact was never the goal. Not for them, not for us.
