It is a sealed orchard, a horizontal tomb for ideas too volatile to be spoken aloud. Buried beneath it: the roots of vanished decisions, still twitching. The black-red mass isn’t darkness—it’s compressed daylight, fossilized into pigment and silence. When touched, it radiates a temperature that doesn’t register on thermometers.

Above that boundary: ghost-fruit. You may notice the faint suggestion of floating forms—petal-like, wing-like, maybe even flame-like. Those are impressions left by decisions that chose not to happen. The trees here blossom with aftermaths. Their seeds speak backwards. Their leaves glow in frequencies only moths remember.

People ask why the orchard is walled off, why it doesn’t bleed into the sky. The truth is simple: it must not. The division is a kindness. If the lower realm ever merges with the upper, memory will no longer be chronological. We’ll remember endings before beginnings, and choices will retroactively erase the people who made them.

Do not hang this near mirrors. Do not display it in rooms where things are meant to grow. If you dream of fruit after seeing it, do not eat it. That isn’t hunger. That’s the painting trying to finish what it started.

Acrylic on canvas 30 x 48 “The Orchard Beneath the Threshold” This painting captures the exact moment soil remembers light.
